Air filled membrane structure room sprayed by mechanical arm

Digital Future Workshop 2020 participated in the work camp at Tongji University. This project mainly consists of two symmetrical double-wave curves, which can be split in both vertical and horizontal directions, and attached to the external inflatable membrane structure.

In this workshop, a room is constructed by means of spraying a quick setting polymer building material on the surface of an inflatable air membrane with a mechanical arm, and an intelligent construction method integrating a variety of construction technologies and design software is discussed. The workshop includes rough parametric design, hand-held 3D scanner, 3D structural software, and the integration of a variety of building technologies. The technical possibility of mass customization of products and buildings can be achieved. In the end, an air membrane room with variable cross-section with a diameter of about 2.4m to 2.6m will be completed.
